Hardstyle is a electronic dance genre that started in the early 2000s. It is characterized by the use of euphoric melodies and by its use of a distorted bass as the kick of the drop. It usually makes use of repetitive basslines with occasional moments where it switches from a four on the floor beat to a double time (or even faster) and then changes back. There are many subgenres of hardstyle, such as euphoric hardstyle, Rawstyle, X-tra Raw, and Rawphoric.
